Really enjoyed this and it seemed to fly by as a read Can’t wait to start Volume 2。

I really enjoyed this and seeing this kind of origin story。 I’ve seen different origin stories of the ninja turtles but this one I liked a lot。 A bit hard to get thru in the beginning but once you keep reading, you end up very invested

Great re-write of the origin of the turtles。 If you are a fan or interested, this is the place to start。

I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading this series, I was a little hesitant because I haven’t been enjoying a lot of mainstream comic titles recently and the characters origins are similar to the Michael bay films, DO NOT LET THAT SCARE YOU AWAY FROM THIS。 There is a reason TMNT has endured for so long, the characters are on point and this series does them justice and not a single one of them is disrespected, in fact every single one of them is enhanced in a way that is believable a I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading this series, I was a little hesitant because I haven’t been enjoying a lot of mainstream comic titles recently and the characters origins are similar to the Michael bay films, DO NOT LET THAT SCARE YOU AWAY FROM THIS。 There is a reason TMNT has endured for so long, the characters are on point and this series does them justice and not a single one of them is disrespected, in fact every single one of them is enhanced in a way that is believable an endearing, not just the turtles but the supporting cast。Highly recommended 。。。more

This is a bit like the Ultimate Universe reimaginging that Marvel did in the early 2000's。 A retelling of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in a new continuinty, which is perfect for someone like me who wants to read the comics but not necessarily the entire original run。The art varies from issue to issue but overall it was pretty good。 It was nice to see some variety in the overall designs while staying mostly consistent。I like the idea that Splinter and the turtles are somehow reincarnated from This is a bit like the Ultimate Universe reimaginging that Marvel did in the early 2000's。 A retelling of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in a new continuinty, which is perfect for someone like me who wants to read the comics but not necessarily the entire original run。The art varies from issue to issue but overall it was pretty good。 It was nice to see some variety in the overall designs while staying mostly consistent。I like the idea that Splinter and the turtles are somehow reincarnated from a family in Feudal Japan。 I'm not sure if this is a new idea in this series or if it was incorporated into the original run。All of the characters get their moments to shine and help differentiate them beyond the basics: Leonardo leading, Donatello doing machines, Michelangelo being a party dude and Raphael being rude but cool。This volume contained the first several issues of the main story-line as well as several one-shots that focused on each of the four turtles。 I found these helpful in giving each character a bit of space so they could grow and develop without being distracted by the other characters。Definitely a fun series I'll have to continue。 。。。more

I had only ever watched the cartoons as a kid。 And then I obsessed over the live action movies when they came out in the ‘90’s。 Had never picked up the comic。 I started reading this with my 5&7 years olds at bedtime。 They were into it for about half the story and then wanted to switch to something with more dragons 🤷🏼‍♂️。 So this got paused。 I picked it up again while staying at home after LASIK。 Not surprising: it reads faster when not reading out loud, pointing to each frame & explaining as yo I had only ever watched the cartoons as a kid。 And then I obsessed over the live action movies when they came out in the ‘90’s。 Had never picked up the comic。 I started reading this with my 5&7 years olds at bedtime。 They were into it for about half the story and then wanted to switch to something with more dragons 🤷🏼‍♂️。 So this got paused。 I picked it up again while staying at home after LASIK。 Not surprising: it reads faster when not reading out loud, pointing to each frame & explaining as you go 🙂。 This collection was really enjoyable! Great story telling, page layouts and beautiful artwork with alternate cover art from different artists sprinkled in。 I enjoyed identifying connections between this, my childhood cartoon memories and the live action movies。 Super fun。 Can’t wait to read the next volume。 。。。more

Sometimes it's difficult to give a grade and this time was no different, I'd love to give it a higher grade but since I'm limited to the solid 1-5 stars I'll settle for a 4 out of 5。 This was a great introduction to the characters and the world building was great, this is a great starting point for people who are new to the TMNT franchise and I'd imaging it's a great series for well versed readers as well! This is my first time reading TMNT comics and I really enjoyed myself。 I grew up on the original cartoon and live action movies so I was familiar with them but just never got around to trying a comic。 Good stuff。 I plan to hunt down the other books。

While I'm not a huge fan of some of the changes to the Origins of TMN, i realize they cant just keep telling the same tale。 Other than that I absolutely loved this book。 Beautiful art。 Just a great time all around。 While I'm not a huge fan of some of the changes to the Origins of TMN, i realize they cant just keep telling the same tale。 Other than that I absolutely loved this book。 Beautiful art。 Just a great time all around。 。。。more

I read this on the recommendation of a friend, and it did not disappoint。 As a kid who was really into the Turtles in the late 1980s, this was an incredibly sophisticated read。

I’ve got to say, I’m not as impressed as I hoped to be based on all the hype I’ve heard around this “new” IDW series。 It reads like a lazy rehashing of every TMNT origin story I’ve seen thus far (with one notable exception I won’t get into here)。 The characters are bland, and my favorite vigilante badass of all time - Casey Jones - is so flat and dull, and his dialogue is written with the most generic urban inflection。。。 It’s disappointing。 The artwork is the biggest redeeming quality。 Dan Dunca I’ve got to say, I’m not as impressed as I hoped to be based on all the hype I’ve heard around this “new” IDW series。 It reads like a lazy rehashing of every TMNT origin story I’ve seen thus far (with one notable exception I won’t get into here)。 The characters are bland, and my favorite vigilante badass of all time - Casey Jones - is so flat and dull, and his dialogue is written with the most generic urban inflection。。。 It’s disappointing。 The artwork is the biggest redeeming quality。 Dan Duncan’s visuals are fresh and dark, and while the appearance of the human characters often varies from panel to panel, the turtles themselves look stellar! I started out reading the IDW series by going through each individual trade paperback, but it felt disjointed that way to say the least。 Now I got my hands on the deluxe collections and I'm having a blast。 Rather simplistic, but fluid and dynamic linework by Dan Duncan, best storytelling from Eastman by far, probably thanks to the collaboration with Tom Waltz and the colors by Ronda Pattison are the perfect blend between the atmosphere established by the original covers back in the day and the m I started out reading the IDW series by going through each individual trade paperback, but it felt disjointed that way to say the least。 Now I got my hands on the deluxe collections and I'm having a blast。 Rather simplistic, but fluid and dynamic linework by Dan Duncan, best storytelling from Eastman by far, probably thanks to the collaboration with Tom Waltz and the colors by Ronda Pattison are the perfect blend between the atmosphere established by the original covers back in the day and the more cartoony style of the animated shows。 The excellent Microseries one-shots are finally compiled into the ongoing in a proper order and function as episodes enhancing the story instead of giving off the impression as tie-in filler。 。。。more

I’m not sure how this will tickle the fanny of those who are new to the Ninja Turtles, but—wait, what? It’s “fancy”? So technically I've read the whole thing, not just the first volume, but seeing how the whole thing was 104 issues, I'm counting it as one of my significant reads of 2020。 It was great。 The TMNT have never been written better, not just as a series, but as characters。 When written poorly, or blandly, the individual turtles are just written as stereotypes。 Leo is no-nonsense, Donnie is a nerd, Mikey is an idiot, and Raph is a psychopath。 But this series is above that。 It takes the time to show the So technically I've read the whole thing, not just the first volume, but seeing how the whole thing was 104 issues, I'm counting it as one of my significant reads of 2020。 It was great。 The TMNT have never been written better, not just as a series, but as characters。 When written poorly, or blandly, the individual turtles are just written as stereotypes。 Leo is no-nonsense, Donnie is a nerd, Mikey is an idiot, and Raph is a psychopath。 But this series is above that。 It takes the time to show the ideologies and personality quirks of the turtles。 Not only do the turtles feel real, they also seem like a real, and loving family。 A concept that is often overlooked in Michael Bay movies。 Overall, 5/5, and Old Hob rules, but sucks, in a good way。 。。。more
